Fully Known

“O LORD, You have searched me and known me. You know when I sit and when I rise; You understand my thoughts from afar. You search out my path and my lying down; You are aware of all my ways. Even before a word is on my tongue, You know all about it, O LORD. You hem me in behind and before; You have laid Your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.”
Psalms 139:1-6 (BSB)Read the whole chapter →

The psalmist marvels that God searches and knows him: when he sits and when he rises, his thoughts, his paths, even his words before he speaks them. For some this could sound uncomfortable, like being watched. But the psalm reads it as being held. To be fully known and still loved is the deepest kind of belonging. Many of us edit ourselves for other people, afraid that if they saw the whole picture we would be rejected. God has already seen the whole picture. That removes the need to pretend in prayer. Today, spend a few minutes telling God the unfiltered truth about how you are, the tired parts, the proud parts, the fearful parts. Rest in the fact that He is not shocked. If shame keeps you silent, consider sharing with a trusted pastor or counselor too.

Prayer

Lord, You know me completely and still love me. Help me rest in that today. Amen.
