Rest for the Soul
“Rest in God alone, O my soul, for my hope comes from Him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress; I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honor rest on God, my strong rock; my refuge is in God. Trust in Him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts before Him. God is our refuge.Selah”
David speaks to his own soul here, telling it to be quiet before God. That is worth noticing: he does not wait for peace to arrive, he addresses himself and redirects his attention. Our minds can run all day on worry, comparison and to-do lists, and the psalm invites a different habit. It calls God a rock, a salvation and a fortress, three pictures of something that does not move when everything else does. Trust is not pretending the storm is small; it is choosing where to stand while it blows. Take five minutes today, away from your phone, and simply name to God what is pressing on you. Then say out loud that He is your shelter. Repeat it whenever anxiety returns. If worry feels too heavy to carry, also share it with a trusted friend, pastor or counselor.
Prayer
God, my rock, quiet the noise inside me and be my shelter today. Amen.
