1 Chronicles 10
Berean Standard Bible14 verses · 2 min read
The narrative begins with the last battle of Saul. The Philistines defeat Israel at Mount Gilboa, kill Saul's sons, and wound Saul, who, rather than be abused, falls on his sword. The Philistines display his body and put his armor in their gods' temple, but brave men of Jabesh Gilead retrieve the bodies and bury them. The writer gives a theological verdict: Saul died because he was unfaithful to the Lord, did not keep his word, and even consulted a medium instead of seeking the Lord, so the Lord turned the kingdom to David. Chronicles shows that leadership is measured by faithfulness to God, not by position.
