Genesis 16
Berean Standard Bible16 verses · 2 min read
Sarai, childless, gives Abram her Egyptian servant Hagar so that she may have offspring through her. Hagar conceives and looks down on Sarai, who treats her harshly, and Hagar flees into the desert. The angel of the Lord finds her by a spring, tells her to return, and promises numerous descendants; her son will be called Ishmael. Hagar names God "the God who sees me." Abram is eighty-six when Ishmael is born. The chapter shows human impatience and God's compassion toward a forgotten woman.
