A Rock in Rough Water

“Rest in God alone, O my soul, for my hope comes from Him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress; I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honor rest on God, my strong rock; my refuge is in God. Trust in Him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts before Him. God is our refuge.Selah”
Psalms 62:5-8 (BSB)Read the whole chapter →

David talks to his own soul here: wait quietly for God alone, because my hope comes from him. Notice the repetition, since the psalm has already said it once and says it again. Sometimes we must preach the same truth to ourselves many times before it settles. God is called a rock, a salvation, and a refuge, three images of things that do not shift when everything else moves. Then comes an invitation in Psalms 62:8: pour out your heart before him. Trust and honesty go together, and prayer is not a polished speech but an open faucet. Whatever you are worried about, God can handle the whole mess. Today, set a timer for five minutes. Speak or write everything on your heart without editing, then end with a single sentence: you are my rock, and I will wait for you.
