Abiding in the Vine

“Remain in Me, and I will remain in you. Just as no branch can bear fruit by itself unless it remains in the vine, neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in Me. I am the vine and you are the branches. The one who remains in Me, and I in him, will bear much fruit. For apart from Me you can do nothing.”
John 15:4-5 (BSB)Read the whole chapter →

On the night before His crucifixion Jesus told His friends that He is the true vine and they are the branches. The central word is abide, remain, stay connected. A branch does not strain to produce grapes; it draws life from the vine, and fruit is the natural result. Apart from Him, Jesus says, you can do nothing. That sounds severe until we realize it is an invitation to rest, not a threat. Many of us try to serve God by sheer effort and end up exhausted and dry. Abiding is not passivity; it is dependence. It looks like starting the day with prayer, staying in the word, obeying what we already know, and returning to Him quickly when we drift. Today, pick three points in your day, perhaps morning, midday, and evening, and pause for one minute each to tell Jesus you need Him. Notice what grows.

Prayer

Jesus, true vine, keep me close to You. Let Your life flow through me and bear fruit. Amen.
