Taste and See
“I will bless the LORD at all times; His praise will always be on my lips. My soul boasts in the LORD; let the oppressed hear and rejoice. Magnify the LORD with me; let us exalt His name together. I sought the LORD, and He answered me; He delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to Him are radiant with joy; their faces shall never be ashamed. This poor man called out, and the LORD heard him; He saved him from all his troubles. The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear Him, and he delivers them. Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him!”
David wrote this psalm after a frightening escape, yet it opens with a decision to bless God at all times. Praise is not reserved for easy days. He invites others to join him, sharing what he learned when he cried out and was heard. Then comes a beautiful image: taste and see that the Lord is good. Tasting is personal. You cannot know the flavor of a meal from reading the menu, and you cannot know God's goodness only from other people's descriptions. The psalm suggests we discover it by taking refuge in Him and noticing what happens. Today, choose one worry and deliberately bring it to God as an act of refuge rather than a formality. Afterward, take a moment to notice any small evidence of His care, a calmer thought, a kind message, a door opening, and write it down as your own taste of His goodness.
Prayer
Lord, I run to You as my refuge today. Help me to taste and see that You are good. Amen.
