Santiago ha estado llamando a una comunidad conflictiva y mundana a volver a Dios, exhortándola a someterse, resistir al diablo, acercarse y arrepentirse con tristeza. El versículo 6 ya dijo que Dios resiste a los soberbios y da gracia a los humildes.
