2 Chronicles 16
Berean Standard Bible14 verses · 2 min read
Late in his reign, Baasha of Israel fortifies a town near Jerusalem to cut Judah off. Instead of trusting God as before, Asa pays silver and gold from the temple to the king of Aram to break his treaty with Baasha. It works politically, but the seer Hanani rebukes him, saying God searches the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully his. Asa angrily imprisons Hanani, oppresses some people, and, when his feet become diseased, seeks physicians but not the Lord. The chapter is a sober warning that a good beginning does not guarantee a faithful end.
