“He has driven me away and made me walk in darkness instead of light.”

Lamentations 3:2

Study note

Lamentations 3 begins with a man who speaks of the affliction he has seen under God's rod, most likely representing the suffering people of Jerusalem after Babylon's destruction in 586 BC. Verses 1-18 are one of the darkest stretches of complaint in Scripture, before hope appears in verse 21.
