Ezekiel 19
Berean Standard Bible14 verses · 2 min read
Ezekiel raises a lament for Israel's princes, portrayed in two images. A lioness raises two cubs, each of whom becomes a young lion that learns to hunt and devour. The first is caught and taken to Egypt, the second trapped and taken to Babylon, likely referring to Jehoahaz and Jehoiachin or Zedekiah. Then the mother is imagined as a fruitful vine planted by water, strong branches fit for a ruler's scepter, yet uprooted in fury, its fruit dried and its strongest branch burned. The lament closes by stating that there is no longer a strong branch fit to rule.
