Isaiah 39
Berean Standard Bible8 verses · 1 min read
Merodach-Baladan, king of Babylon, sends envoys with letters and a gift to congratulate Hezekiah on his recovery. Hezekiah welcomes them and proudly shows them everything in his storehouses: silver, gold, spices, oil, and the whole armory. Isaiah asks what the men said and where they came from, then tells Hezekiah that a time is coming when everything in his palace will be carried off to Babylon, and some of his own descendants will be taken to serve in the palace of Babylon's king. Hezekiah replies that the word is good, since there will be peace and security in his own lifetime, a reaction that shows a troubling shortsightedness.
