Isaiah 23
Berean Standard Bible18 verses · 2 min read
The oracle against Tyre, the great Phoenician seaport, begins with the ships of Tarshish wailing because their harbor is destroyed. Tyre had been a city of joy and of far-reaching trade, the merchant of the nations, and its traders were princes. God planned its downfall to bring low the pride of all glory and dishonor those renowned on the earth. Tyre will be forgotten for seventy years, then return to its trade like a prostitute picking up her old habit. In the end its profit will be set apart for the Lord and used to provide food and clothing for those who live in his presence.
