Isaiah 8
Berean Standard Bible22 verses · 2 min read
Isaiah is told to write on a large scroll and later to name his newborn son Maher-Shalal-Hash-Baz, a name meaning quick to plunder, as a sign that Assyria will soon overrun Israel and Aram. Because the people rejected the gentle waters of Shiloah, the mighty flood of Assyria will sweep into Judah, yet Immanuel's land is not forgotten. God tells Isaiah not to fear what the people fear, but to regard the Lord as holy; he will be a sanctuary and a stumbling stone. The people turn to mediums instead of God's word, and the chapter ends in distress and darkness.
