Job 8
Berean Standard Bible22 verses · 2 min read
Bildad responds more sharply, asking whether God perverts justice. He suggests that Job's children died because of their own sin, and that if Job is pure, God will restore him. He appeals to the wisdom of previous generations, using images of papyrus that withers without water and a spider's web as pictures of the fate of those who forget God. His conclusion is that God does not reject the blameless. His argument sounds pious, but it wounds Job by implying that his family's deaths were deserved. The chapter shows tradition used as a weapon rather than comfort.
