Psalms 88
Berean Standard Bible18 verses · 1 min read
The bleakest psalm in the book, and unusual because it never turns to hope. The singer is overwhelmed with trouble, feels close to death, and sees himself as one forgotten, like the slain lying in the grave. He believes God's anger has caused it, that friends have withdrawn, and that he is shut in. Yet he keeps praying every day, spreading out his hands, and he still addresses God as the God who saves him. It ends in darkness. Its inclusion tells us that honest, unresolved lament belongs in faith.
